Although still ongoing, the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is full of surprises. There are successful players in every team. Thus, we have tried to establish the ranking of the seven best players of this great mass of football. Between Mohamed Salah,  Sadio Mané or even Riyad Mahrez, there are really things to be proud of during this 65th edition of the AFCON.

1. Mohamed Salah

Unsurprisingly, Mohamed Salah occupies first place in the ranking of the best players of this CAN 2022. The Egyptian winger is perhaps the best player on the planet since the start of the season. We are talking about a player who has scored16 goals and provided nine assists, in 20 appearances in the Premier League.

The Liverpool winger therefore landed full of confidence for the competition. It is therefore difficult not to be particularly serene for Egypt! With a Mohamed Salah at such a level, the Pharaohs can hope to go very far. It is also this pharaoh of modern times who allowed his team to qualify ahead of Morocco. He scored 2 goals.

2. Riyadh Mahrez

He is almost always present with the Fennecs. Riyad Mahrez had greatly contributed to Algeria’s success at AFCON 2019. Hoping to keep his title, the Algerian team called on the expertise of the Manchester City winger.

Able to make a difference at all times, Riyad Mahrez did not go unnoticed during the continental competition. Unfortunately, the Algerian selection was eliminated in the first round. The 30-year-old still has 26 goals in 70 caps.

3. Sadio Mane

We find another player from Senegal in this ranking, in the person of Sadio Mané. Upon joining Liverpool in 2016, the left winger has established himself as one of the best players on the planet. He is the main offensive weapon of the Teranga Lions.

Author of 26 goals in 80 selections, Sadio Mané caused a sensation during this AFCON 2022. In search of his first international trophy, the Senegalese winger will have to evolve at his best level to help his people win the title. Note that he has already scored 2 goals in this competition.

4. Edward Mendy

Edouard Mendy is certainly the best goalkeeper of this AFCON 2022. He has indeed shone throughout the year 2021. A great architect of the coronation of Chelsea in the Champions League, the 29-year-old goal keeper wants to shine with his international selection.

Last bastion of one of the great favorites of this competition, Édouard Mendy has his say in this race for the coronation.

5. Sebastien Haller

He shone throughout the first part of this season. Sébastien Haller has just discovered the Champions League, with Ajax Amsterdam. And the Ivorian striker did not do things by halves! He scored six goals in ten games in the queen of European competitions.

And he is the player to have reached this total the fastest in the history of the C1. He therefore landed with full confidence for AFCON 2022! Even if he was able to score one goal during the competition, the latter was unfortunately not enough to take his team to the final.

6. Karl Toko Ekambi

Thanks to his last brace, the striker allowed the Indomitable Lions to qualify for the semi-finals. With this double, Karl Toko Ekambi now has five goals in this competition, one goal behind Captain Vincent Aboubacar, who has six. He is, more than ever, one of the artificers on whom the coach of the Indomitable Lions, Antonio Conceiçao can count in order to make the difference against the opponent.

7. Chacker Alhadhur

Chaker Alhadhur, is a Comorian international footballer, playing as a full-back at the Athletic Club of Ajaccio. Indeed, last week, the Comoros were eliminated in the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations by Cameroon (2-1). A meeting marked by the presence in the goals of the side trained in Nantes, Chaker Alhadhur.

He had arms in the back, not to grab the second goal of the Indomitable Lions, punching by the head rather than the fists. The defender from Ajaccio has sometimes forgotten that he was a goalkeeper for one evening. But he saved his team from sinking like in the 53rd where he made a saving double parry.

Thanks to the ex-Canary, his selection did not take its suitcase as announced. They even made their opponents doubt after the reduction of the score of M’Changama (81st).
